KNC run a Yarning Group every Friday morning 10.30am-12.30pm and every second Thursday of the month 10.30am – 12.30pm at KNC. Our Yarning Group chat and work with yarns of all types – we have people who knit, sew, crochet and make lace. We encourage beginners to drop in and be coached by our more seasoned members.

Our group draws its members from our English Conversation Class, Mah-jong group, shopping bus clients, Broadband for Seniors group, our wonderful group of volunteers, our frail and elderly clients, shoppers and Ku-ring-gai residents.

KNC Yarning Group is fortunate to be sponsored this year by Ku-ring-gai Council and Bendigo Bank. This has enabled us to purchase yarn and equipment, our main focus being knitting squares for the Wrap with Love Inc.

In 1992 Wrap with Love began with the idea of helping as many people as possible by providing warm Wraps to ward of hypothermia. Since then Wrap with Love have sent more than 260,000 Wraps to people in over 75 countries, including Australia.

This year so far KNC Yarners have made 30 wraps and donated them to Wrap with Love. That’s knitting or crocheting 840 squares! We have people knitting everywhere and the group has become a vital social support group in the community.

Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre’s (KNC) Yarning Group in conjunction with St Ives Shopping Village will be holding a Knit In on Friday 5 August 2011 from 10am to 1.30pm under the dome at St Ives Shopping Village corresponding with the ABC Sydney Knit In.

KNC and St Ives Shopping Village are thrilled to be working in collaboration with ABC Sydney to promote the KNC Knit In and the great work our organisation does in the community.

KNC is happy to be a collection point for completed wraps.
