Early Childhood Health Centre
Child & Family Health Services are provided in the Ku-ring-gai area by the Northern Sydney Local Health District. The Early Childhood clinic is co-located with the Ku-ring-gai Neighbourhood Centre (KNC) and can be accessed either through the Neighbourhood Centre or preferably via a gated walkway at the corner of the Neighbourhood Centre.
The Child & Family Health Nurses at St Ives provide free support and information on any parenting issue until the child is 5 years of age, including:
- Infant feeding
- Child safety
- Sleep & settling
- Parenting & care of your child
- Growth & development
- Is a resource for other child & family services.
- Behaviour management
- Maternal health & wellbeing.
- Domestic violence
The Child & Family Health Nurses also home visit mothers and their babies within the first four weeks of birth. During this visit they provide mothers with information about the Early Parenting Support Group which is designed to help and support mother and baby during the first twelve weeks of life. Thereafter the group she has attended becomes her Mother’s Group. Other information sessions available to mother are the Introduction to Solids session and Connecting with your Baby session . Lindfield Early Childhood Health Centre also holds a Why Play is Important session. Date and time for any of these sessions is available from the Early Childhood Centre.
All visits are by appointment only and an interpreter service is available if required. Each child is provided with a Personal Health Record Book, the Blue Book, from the hospital where they were born. It is recommended that the book accompanies the child to all clinic appointments so that the nurse can document in the book for your child’s health records.
